POPE HAITIAN PEOPLE'S SOLIDARITY
Benedict XVI reiterated its solidarity with Haiti, when his envoy, Cardinal Robert Sarah, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum visited the island last January 9.
The pope said, in effect its vicinity, after the Angelus on Sunday, saying: "In the context of the Marian prayer, I would like to reserve a special remembrance to the people Haiti, one year after the devastating earthquake that has unfortunately been followed by a terrible epidemic of cholera. "
He added: "The cardinal Sarah Robert, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, is traveling today on the Caribbean island to express my closeness and the constant of the whole Church. "
For his part, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, will preside at a Mass today, 12 January, the anniversary to the day of the earthquake at 16 h 30 in the Basilica of St. Mary majeure.
"The initiative with a Mass to commemorate victims of the devastating earthquake has been promoted by the Ambassador of Haiti to the Holy See and the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See and other diplomatic corps in Rome are invited to attend, "said a statement from the Vatican.
